7:10am on my retirement day

I wasn’t up to blogging yesterday. I can’t believe that that right-wing religious twunt has got himself another 4 years. I went to bed with a glimmer of hope, but checking in on the results at 6am the next day was like a punch to the gut. It stems from having lived in the most liberal towns in the most liberal states in the union, I suppose. It’s easy to forget that there’s a huge amount of fundamentalist zealotry between the two points, all too eager to get out and put in their intolerant tuppence on gay marriage, womens rights, and “god” knows what else. Such bigotry is hard to fathom. Exit polls showed the #1 concern of voters in the red states was “Moral Values”, and the Iraq war was #4. How is that possible? It makes Bush’s “crusade” all the more aptly named. Back to 16th-century family values for all.

I’ll put a new poll up on the front page soonish and link to it regarding the best place to flee to… Middle Earth for Kathy and Vance, Canada for Jesse…

To end on an up note, prop 63 passed in California. Where despite Arnie’s best efforts, millionaires get a new 1% tax to go toward mental health initiatives, and stem cell research gets a few billion federal dollars. It’s something to hang on to i s’pose.

Here goes an ill-advised dip into politics after being force fed 3 nights of none-more-patriotic speeches from the democrats’ conference. Obviously, Obama’s the one to vote for. McCain getting in is too depressing to contemplate, but the Daily Show came up with this fine effort last night that hit the nail on the head for the tone of the entire proceedings.

Here’s a few photos from the trip south. I’ve just come over v. tired and shall elucidate later, but in summary: Gorgeous landscapes from the border on downwards, very easy crossing, no major problems with the car, have met tons of tidy people already, i drove and sita was the official navegator/photographer. Just gave Jose (an old mate of mine) a ring and we’re meeting up tomorrow. Had a successful skyping with Sally, Martin and Margie (even heard Atticus in the background). Stay tuned for more events as they happen. Glad we’re no where near yet another Category 5 hurricane down Chiapas way. Benditos.

And I’m not sure if Ms Bennet reads this rubbish I call a blog but, thanks for the Ghost Rider critique- I watched it yesterday and a review is forthcoming which shall speak to your pertinent observations… for me, a success… it does exactly what it says on the tin, stunt motorcyclist sells his soul to the devil and becomes an avenging nocturnal flaming skeleton on a bike. Great stuff… (I then watched Cinema Paradiso to counteract the adrenelin…)
