i have often wondered, how many residents of colorado know the meaning of their states name? in the days of my super basic castellano, i was amazed by the name of a lake i visited on the bolivian altiplano, laguna colorada. me quede’, como colorado? no deberia llamarse luguna rosa o laguna morada?! (obviously far from exclusive to them, i fear few osstrayans know the meaning of their nations name either)
Reminds me of a mormon kid in Guadalajara years back who was struggling to translate ‘Rio Grande’ into Spanish… Y colorín, colorado, este cuento se ha acabado…
