Sita’s holding her own in an increasingly heated discussion on house ownership and annual salaries and I’m going to finish off the packing. This will probably be the last post for a while as I’m packing up the laptop along with everything else. Wish us luck and hopefully the next post will be from Guadalajara, Mexico querido y lindo. Sita had her Qualifying Exam this morning from 9-12. She was up at 5, bless her, preparing. And I just heard she’d passed so CONGRATULATIONS, guapita! This means she is ‘ABD’ which sounds like a hyperactivity disorder (and just may be…) but means she’s ‘All But Dissertation’ for her PhD, so she’s done all the classes and written the papers and just needs to do her dissertation to walk out as Doctor Sita, it’s still 2 years or so away, but this is a MAJOR step. Am well proud of me little wifey… 99 bottles of beer quiz tonight, which is a little less intimidating than a verbal exam in front of 5 awe inspiring professors. Party on Saturday…! (and that’s 2 exclamation marks more than i usuall write in a blog entry) ! 3…

“I’ve lately embarked on a sci-fi/fantasy movie project with my nephew. he’s fascinated by lord of the rings, but new to the concept of sci-fi and fantasy as genres. so now i get to watch all sorts of cool old movies with him, as an intervention, education sort of thing. or i could refrain from theorizing it, and just say it’s a good excuse to watch fun, silly, and/or good movies. got any suggestions?”

I’ve just downloaded 200 megs + from gwynunlimited.com (my old corner of the internet) with a view to shutting it all down. It’s got so much stuff there though. Downloading it was like finding a box of badly sorted photos and letters from several years ago.
I give it another month before it disappears completely.

Crunchy nut cornflakes disappeared off the market in the States, and all I have left of them is this scan of a limited edition packet from 2004… No photoshop. That’s the uberpatriotic packaging. This was in the days before Steven Colbert.

I’m also planning on having javascript see what language settings your computer has and sending you to the appropriate page. I’d really appreciate it if you could comment whether the photo gallery page works since I’ve had problems with simple viewer and cross browser compatibility before now. There should be 30 or so photos popping up to click on. Thanks in advance 😀

This just in from London’s premier ecologically-minded design agency, Sprout, aka Bert’s Big Green Business: Binvention is now on sale and apparently in a range of hues.
“Gets your recycling sorted” ain’t a bad tagline. Don’t think it’s bin done before. Looks like an offer too good to refuse. Can‘t think of any more crap puns. It wouldn’t be of huge use here in Mexico, as recycling of cans as part of household waste is something only done by the extremely conscientious. If you’re dead set on saving the world, your best bet is to collect your cans, in a Binvention or otherwise, then leave it next to the rubbish which gets collected 3 times a week. Either it’ll get taken away by the dustmen and shoved in landfill or it might just get picked up by someone collecting cans to sell to metal yards for a few pesos. Interesting that household waste is the only thing that doesn’t get recycled. Everything else seems to get fixed and live forever womble style, fridges, tvs, cars, furniture etc…
