It’s very tricky to photograph jet black dogs in very sunny conditions, especially when they never look at the camera… Sita and Monica photograph well though. And they pampered Mr. Cus to bits yesterday afternoon with special Barbie-Princess-themed “Champú para perros”. He enjoyed it more than the photos appear to show…
After all that fun, Jose came round and made his trademark dish: Bocado de Cielo. It’s billed as a lasagne with tortillas instead of pasta and jumbo prawns instead of meat. But actually, every lasagne ingredient goes out the window and is replaced with chilis or manchego cheese and other stuff, and what you end up with really has nothing to do with lasagne. But is delicious. Jana and Victor came round too and showed us some of their photos from Ecuador. A good night…
It’s been a busy week for me and Drsita, though I think S worked harder than I did. She’s had her usual lectures, meetings, office hours & job applications going on and also yesterday gave a 45 minute presentation on tequila and gender involving various Lucha Reyes clips.
And we’re glad it’s the weekend…
So last Friday I had an interview for a job as a UK English localisation tester and that came through. On Monday I was testing a training program about EU Competition laws and Thursday and Friday I was recording all instances of organization (rather than organisation) and suchlike in a proprietary course management system. A lot like Moodle but infinitely more expensive. There’ll be more on Monday then it may well dry up for a bit.
I’ve been making DVDs for Drs. Sudarat & Sita. Working on theming a Volusion e-commerce site (I’ll post the link when I finish) and a 12′ banner for a friend selling camping gear for festivals. Putting together the first non-WordPress site I’ve done in years (link soon “Marketing Gestalt”…) Updating nourishingnutrition.com , lorrainepursell.com , comfortmattressfurniture.com . Finalising pink-caterpillar.com. And all the while clicking over to the LA Times site (which appears to be down today) to see how Atticus is faring in the popularity contest. He needed 3 votes to overtake the picture of the dead horse last time I checked…and watching my adsense pennies pile up.
Here’s my logo for the camping thing…
Cusifer’s in the dog house after his behaviour over the last couple of days. First off, on Wednesday we barbecued some veggies and while I was sorting them out inside, he made off with two thirds of my baked potato with cheese that was sitting on our garden table. And was very reticent to give it back. I wrested it off him and he sulked for the best part of 3 hours. As punishment, rather than his usual treats I gave him slices of said potato for the next 48 hours (If my baked potato is all that you want, baked potato is all you shall have…) Which may well have been the trigger for finding he’d been unable to contain his bowels on Friday night and gave me a fine way to start Friday.
Changing the subject… I finally finished watching The Wire Season 4. I think it’s been noted before, but it’s the best damn drama available on the planet. I can’t stop thinking about Bubs. Bless him. After season 5 it’s going to be hard going back to normal telly. I’ve found there are presently 4 reasons to subscribe to basic cable. And 2 (possibly 3) of them are freely and legally available online. The Daily Show, Colbert Report, The Soup and America’s Funniest Videos. The first two package US news in a palatable form. The Soup reminds me why there’s no point in watching anything but the aforementioned 4 programmes. And America’s Funniest Videos is perfect for watching while eating. Zero plot, zero thought, and 100% people falling over/hurting themselves. The cream of a country of 300 million all with easy access to a camcorder.
Here’s a picture of the sculpture by the PGE stadium next to where I’m working…
I’ll try not to let a week go past again before the next post… Here endeth the stream of consciousness.
One of those 10-different-sounds-of-varying-annoyance car alarms went off at 5.15am outside our house for ever and after stuffing bog roll in me ears, cowering under the pillow and trying to think of lyrics to fit with it, I called the police for the first time ever in the states. They eventually investigated with their walkie-talkies at about the same volume as the alarm, prodded the car for 10 minutes or so, then called a tow-truck to come and shift the car, which duly reversed up the road beeping as it went then at around 7am, beautiful silence. I had lovely dreams and called in to work that i’d be late… Sita’n’me went to dine at Malabar, santa cruz’s premier sri lankan vegetarian restaurant, since i’m off for a bit and why not celebrate?
This map (created by a generator thing) show all the countries I’ve passed through. Sita’s would probably have a lot more red. I passed up the chance to go with her to Morocco one weekend, Italy another. And I never went to Portugal that time because I had to work… Still it’s quality, not quantity, no?
Today we’re off to Tequila again, their festival finishes tomorrow. I want to be here in Gwod tomorrow because it’s The Virgin of Guadalupe’s saint day and there are various processions and other photo ops going on. Also it’s Sally and Martin’s 35th wedding anniversary- Many congratulations and best wishes. Traditionally coral or jade, apparently.
And here’s the US states I’ve been to: Basically, Massachusetts and California and everywhere in between. Also if the American Sociological Association held an annual conference in a state in the last 5 years, that’ll be there too. Now all that remains is a map of Somerset where you select the postcodes you’ve been to and it tells you what percentage remains to be seen. Minus Bridgwater. And maybe Chard. I’m not sure about North Petherton neither, last time I passed through someone had scrawled Royston Vasey over the name of the place on the ‘welcome and please drive slowly’ sign.
And while I’m here, there’s some new photos from Friday on Flickr that include the world’s biggest coffee, autostitched terracing, dancing (not me, obviously), and what is currently the only picture on Flickr tagged “Otorrinolaringologos”. Echate un vistazo aqui, guey
The rabbits had a much needed jump around the living room with us. Took lots of photos.
Had an Xmas luncheon yesterday with all the staff along with secret santa scarves and cake… Then in the evening a social event for all the families in PAPAS which turned out to be exhausting but fun. Really need this week to come to an end soon though for a bit of a rest… Friday’s when we hand the keys back for our old place. Nowt much to blog, watched The Gift the other night. Predictable, but scarey in places. 3 Lulus. I need to catch up on all my reviews. I’m about to finish The Dirt- Motley Crue’s autobiography. Tommy’s in prison for wife beating right now… it’s a disturbing read. Anyroad, that’s yer lot for today, back at the weekend probly. All the best, gwyn

Nice to think they’re googling Spanish love songs in between ordering new weapons and planning invasions… Actually. No it’s not.

Just testing a new blog feature. The first time you post a comment (ie. if you've not posted a comment before or use a new name or email) you'll get a welcome to Gwyn's Blog type message. Wonder if it works…
Hi Gwyn that’s an excellent clip it’s cheered me right up. Loving your work as always, don’t think just cos I haven’t commented til now I haven’t been reading with interest. But not in a sinister way. With the added incentive of a welcome message how can I resist? I’ll be in touch properly soon, lots of love Beth X
