Batangas

I finally got round to checking out my web stats today. They’re an odd bunch them anonymous googlers… Here’re my top 5 keywords that arrived at these here pages:

1: “this is how i got those pesky cats to stop crapping in my yard”
2: “it has been brought to management’s attention that some”
3: “mexican swearwords”
4: “cockeral sounds”
5: “pendejadas”

Hope they all found what they were looking for… Anyroad, as promised here’s the full set of photos from yesterday. and below a nifty little video autoproduced by the latest version of Picassa and hosted by our friends at YouTube. It’s Javier the barman mixing a Batanga for Sita in the Capilla cantina in Tequila. She’d worked hard for it…

  1. i’m so sad i never made it to la capilla? how were the batangas? what kind of tequila did they use? tell all!

  2. Hi Sarah,

First off- WE MISS YOU! Have you run out of your tequila supplies yet? Overdosed on cheese? Won any more international academic awards?

And now the bad news… Brace yourself… They don't use 100% agave tequila for the Batanga. It's called Tequileña I think, and the blanco is actually quite quaffable. Very little in the way of chemical overtones and quite complex agave aromas. It's no Siete Leguas of course, but if the cash ever starts to run out we now have a back up plan…

The Batangas (i'm 90% sure that's what they were called) were fine. I had to pass 'cos I was the designated driver. The best thing about them for me was the barman's face as he made his favourite drink. Botanas galore too… a ceviche type affair on “big nachos”/tostaditas and CHEESE… (Grommit). We did our best to try and convince them to let us have a lock-in next Saturday when Mexico officially becomes a prohibition state for the elections, but he apologised and said he couldn't cos he'd already got a letter from the government saying he's not allowed to open.

All in all a very friendly, cosy little cantina. Drinks & Botanas: 4 Lulus… Service 5 Lulus. : )
