according to El Informador which I found via Living Without Borders which in turn I found because they got wind of the fototour and have complimentary things to say about my flickr photostream. Bless em. If you’re surfing in from there for some reason, then yes, in all likelihood it’ll be a Spanish speaking event, but there’s always the universal language of photography and beers. I’d have posted a comment over there but they have comments disabled. Anyroad, all are welcome. It’s nothing too formal and none of us know each other outside of Flickr commentaries and the occasional Flickrmail.
Anyroad, got to go. The home made pizza’s burning. Pizzas No’tardamos aren’t open on Wednesdays…
Our friends Gina and Evan had us round for dinner the other night and showed me their dual lens camera. Since they don’t make film for these things any more the idea is you take a picture with another camera Through the Viewfinder (Ttv) of what it sees. You end up with slightly distorted, vignetted, dusty, square images that are really pleasing to the eye. I was inspired and bought the first camera I saw on eBay. It’s been a while since I used eBay and my original bid of 5 dollars was soon outbid and I got caught up in the competitive bidding and finally snapped it up (pun intended) at the last second for 20 bucks and it arrived today. You can probably get them cheaper, but what the hell…
The next step after cleaning the lens and mirror a bit was making it light proof, there’s a tutorial on how to make a perfectly fitting tube, but I couldn’t be arsed with all that… I ripped up the box it came it and went into a sellotaping frenzy… 10 minutes later… behold!
Next step is wandering around seeing things from a waist-high angle for a while and getting used to the mirror image while Drsita and Atticus look on bemusedly.
To make a long story short, I’m very happy with me new toy.
Other news… we’re looking forward to Sally and Martin’s visit in a few days. Had a lovely weekend and met the neighbours properly. And still no major news on the work front.
Thanks to Mark Wilton-Jones‘s handy little guide and coding, I’ve put a new section on the right for you to swap between stylesheets. I’m not sure how it affects the loading time of the page and if there’s an public uproar, I’ll remove it. Also the new title picture:
is not perfect, and I’ve realised that IE users (Why, oh why?) can’t deal with the PNG transparency. Another quirk I just noticed with explorer is that if your screen resolution is less than 800 wide, the sidebar disappears south. So I’ll be rejigging all that soon enough. Sita’s not keen on the font for G and W neither, so it simply has to go… enjoy it while it lasts… Them buttons are made for clicking…
Last night Sita made ‘plans’ to go to the cinema with her mates, but the advertised film they wanted to see wasn’t there so they ended up in a bar in Zapopan. Jose, victor and me went straight to La Barba Negra for beers and blues, since we don’t excuses to hit the bars. Jose’s had one hell of a week, he’s another one who should blog. Well, he does have one for his excellent poems but I reckon the world would like to know more about a week that ended with someone cycling away from his block of flats firing gunshots in the air and shouting “Arriba, Sinaloa”. Comment below to petition Jose to set up mividaesunatelenovelamalaybarata.blogspot.com …
Today we’re going to an Indian restaurant. Yep, in Guadalajara. It’s brand new and supposedly has curry… it’s been 9 long, curryless months and expectations are high… Shall reveal all manana…
It’s been a great week with all our visitors. There will be photos soon. Promise. Meanwhile: Tonight… bowling, snacks, beer. Tomorrow, airports & farewells. Monday: catching up on a week’s worth of internet…
On the plus side, it went smoothly enough at the tax place- half an hour, in and out… On the down or “delta” side, as we say in Santa Cruz non-profit circles, we owe more than a grand to the US government to spend on evil. The bloke was trying to get us to put money in IRAs or somesuch, which strikes me as a really bad acronym to use to encourage people to save. How’s about putting your earnings in a PLO or an ETA? Any takers? Thought not… Ah well. Feel strangely vindicated, I expected the worst and it happened. I always feel vaguely apprehensive when we get refunded money. So it’s all good. Anyroad, Liz & Mya are round and we’re going to watch Firefly, Joss Whedon’s sci-fi thing. Lovely.
Tanya and Sudarat came round for scrabble and black books last night. Well they didn’t know about the black books part when asked over, but I foisted it on them. bless’em, i didn’t fancy another friday night on me own. Sudarat’s just back from screening her film in a New York arts cinema and Tanya’s been extremely under the weather for nigh on 4 wks and is just coming out of the worst of it. Merci mucho pour la company. All that wound down around midnight and i started watching The Goodies but fell asleep a couple of minutes into the opening credits. Anyroad, not a great night’s sleep all in all so I’m going to try and get another nap in now (it’s half seven am). and if you live in the states, this google satellite thingis fantastic. put your address in, zoom in, drag it round. magic. And if you’re looking to buy/rent a house in San Francisco or anywhere Craigslist is used, this is an impressive combination of google maps and the rent listings, with pictures and everything. That’s the 21st century for you…
Sita sent me this link about an attempt to come up with a slogan or motto for the UK…

apologies. we have some super-spam control that is reeking havoc on ability to leave comments. I am wading back into that mine-field to see if I can free things up.
Cheers for a great blog.
no worries, James, I had the same problem. I highly recommend the Akismet spam plug in and, if that doesn't work, then I could recommend you some “human detector- enter the letters you see” type plugins for wordpress too.
