…in Kingston St. Mary, south west England. Meanwhile in Mexico sunshine as usual… Here’s some photos me dad took. I’m actually a bit jealous, but I’ll get over it. Belated giving of thanks this evening and tequila festival tomorrow in Tequila. I’m driving. Arse.
The new Google Earth version has all the topographical info and the occasional 3D building. It’s like travelling the world all over again. Absolutely breathtaking,. It’s like air travel without the horrors of immigration awaiting you at the other end. They’ve still got to improve the resolution of Kingston, mind. maybe when the population hits 4 figures they’ll upgrade it…
The lucha libre provided a fantastic backdrop to yet another great night. Dramatis personae included: Los Técnicos: Sita, Hannah, Berta y Fernando and los Rudos: José, Aldo and me… There were cameras there so hopefully I’ll get emailed an image or two soon. We started off in El Rincón de la Doa, hit the coliseo and then were swiftly transported (thanks, Berta) to Los Famosos Equipales for a few Nalgas alegres and cantinera singalong of El Rey and other classics. José (barely) managed to fit 6 people in his VW beetle. However he now has brakes so it could have been much worse… and now to work… happy biscuit making. NB. no W shaped biscuits. For shame…
The Zummerzet County Gazette, Taunton’s local rag is shoving the occasional video up on its website. Deathly dull each one, but 10 out of 10 for effort. So the this year’s Pullitzer for investigative journalism seems assured for “Are children watching too much TV?”…
In other news, Flickr PhotoTour #3 is in the planning stages. I’m not organising this one, I put up a poll to help Laura who’s in charge. Tlaquepaque’s looking like the favourite right now. It’s a shame, but the more imaginative suggestions were vetoed because they’ll look better after the rainy season (probably October at this rate…). Still Tlaquepaque’s got lots to offer photographically so it’s all good.
I’ve not posted since Saturday so here’s a summary: Saturday morning I walked to the Tianguis Cultural trying to find T-shirt printing shops on the way to no avail, took a few photos along the way:
Then in the afternoon went to see Spiderman III with Sita which is an overlong mess of a film, see the review here. After that, barbecued arrachera and Jose came round, then later Fernando, Ana and their dog, Tuna, whom Atticus tried to have his wicked way with. Makes a change from Jose’s leg…
Sunday, tranquilo, shopping, interwebbery, and checking out a new dvd rental place, Sala B, nearby which has a fine selection of films and no website. Yet… Grabbed An Inconvenient Truth (also reviewed) and Sita went for the truly, truly DIRE Sex and the City Season 4. One of these days I’ll publish a rant against that particular crime against good telly.
Monday, shopping for books, groceries, this that and t’other then making pizza from scratch and heading out to the airport for M and Sunny D’s triumphant return.
Today is still unfolding… websites, translations… stuff…
Out of interest does anyone reading have a Canon Rebel XTi, and if so, what’s the standard 18-55 lense like? I’m researching my next digital SLR camera purchase…
Sita had her Qualifying Exam this morning from 9-12. She was up at 5, bless her, preparing. And I just heard she’d passed so CONGRATULATIONS, guapita! This means she is ‘ABD’ which sounds like a hyperactivity disorder (and just may be…) but means she’s ‘All But Dissertation’ for her PhD, so she’s done all the classes and written the papers and just needs to do her dissertation to walk out as Doctor Sita, it’s still 2 years or so away, but this is a MAJOR step. Am well proud of me little wifey… 99 bottles of beer quiz tonight, which is a little less intimidating than a verbal exam in front of 5 awe inspiring professors. Party on Saturday…! (and that’s 2 exclamation marks more than i usuall write in a blog entry) ! 3…
also, a friend just emailed me with the following poser: “I’ve lately embarked on a sci-fi/fantasy movie project with my nephew. he’s fascinated by lord of the rings, but new to the concept of sci-fi and fantasy as genres. so now i get to watch all sorts of cool old movies with him, as an intervention, education sort of thing. or i could refrain from theorizing it, and just say it’s a good excuse to watch fun, silly, and/or good movies. got any suggestions?”
I said Back to the Future trilogy, Labyrinth, Hitchhiker’s Guide, the Black Hole and a few others, but what would you recommend, please help the education of the future leaders of America with the ‘Comment’ link, ta…
