Just saw “Closer” with Jude Law and Natalie Portman and various others. It’s great entertainment if you enjoy watching grown-ups breaking up with each other and getting back together again or not. Anyroad, Sita loved it and as such on the right in the “Consumed box”, Sita will be rating films with the Klem icon (the brown one) out of 5… just so people don’t assume she’s just as fond of I, Robot, as I am, or whatever…
While roaming around the outer limits of YouTube I came across this pearl. I’ve put the lyrics and a rough and ready translation below (it looks like the live version below messes about a bit with the order of the verses mind). All about Guanatos (the locals’ name for Guadalajara) by a group from Guanatos, singing to people from Guanatos in Guanatos.

And your Spanish word of the week is a Mexicanism, Naco meaning naff, tacky, of poor taste/ quality, cheap. I’ve a feeling this song qualifies…
As per usual, Monica’s beaten me to this post, but I’ll try and compete all the same… It’s getting harder to do now she has a new camera and is getting the hang of Picasa…
The last time I went to the Mercado de Abastos (wholesale food market) it was closed down for the day what with it being Good Friday and all that and I’ve been meaning to go back for ages, so today, on a whim I said, “Once you finish that game of Pacman, Monica, let’s go on a mini phototour”… So 65000 points or so later we headed off and the first thing I saw was another carro cameleon…
The majority of the market is burly Mexicans chucking fruit around from lorry to stall but they were well friendly, posing for photos and suchlike. Then there’s a covered part where we stocked up on spuds, bananas, mangos, strawbs and a lone pitaya (“Dragonfruit” which I couldn’t bring myself to eat as it looks like a tightly packed ball of coloured maggots and seeds wrapped in a spiny skin…) The heat got too much after a while and we withdrew to the house and made smoothies for everyone (except Atticus, who just got ice chucked in his water bowl). Anyroad, here come the photos:
Another spanish word of the week: La Baticueva. Bat cave. Bats of course, are called murcielagos… Here’s the one we saw in Los Colomos park t’other day. We also managed not to molest any of the fauna, which include abandoned house rabbits…
M & D are still casa-less, but they’re on it. We’re off for a meal somewhere and then bowling. It’s been a while, not since Ed was here this time last year. I think I’ve seen The Big Lebowski more times in the last 2 years than actually gone bowling. Anyroad, I’ve put on some nice, clean socks especially and am ready for a few white russians and fluking the occasional chuza (strike) at the bolinche…
And that’s probably a good thing. This is the kind of musical onanism I’d stay up till 3am to watch on Raw Power when I was 15. Now I just download the occasional coldplay track and all’s good with the world… Rock on, Yngwie ‘Effin’ Malmsteen
And it’s in a lovely area, spacious, room for a schipperke if need be, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, office, kitchen, roof, terrace, locked parking area, sound enough neighbours, but no internet connection just yet. Expect radio silence for a week or so, except the occasional blog from interweb cafes maybe. It’s going to be a fun weekend finding bargain furniture and moving in. Wish us luck. If you haven’t looked at the pix from the other day it’s this one
