Mexico’s late bid for the Eurovision Song Contest

OK, it’s not their eurovision entry, it’s their World Cup Mexico Anthem. All together now, chi-tiqui-bum-a-la-bim-bum-bam… Mexico, Mexico, Ra, Ra, Ra…

This YouTube thing’s alarmingly easy to use…

  1. I HATE THAT SONG, I HATE THAT VIDEO AND HATE THE LYRICS…ALL IN ALL I HATE IT ALL (but the chicks)…

Honestly I feel ashamed of the “Chikipak” rat pack song…is not that I am not tolerat, is just a matter of principles…someone must dismiss out of this planet those Televisa guys in the “creative labs”….

  2. Ay como sufres, Fernando! 😛
te veo esta noche en el coliseo, a ver si alli puedes deshacerte un poco de esa ira…

  3. If you go to the movies they often have a soccer coke commercial and the song is much better. They should use that one. This song is wretched!

  4. Strong opinion for someone who “doesn’t like music”, Sarah : )
Sorry- we’re never going to let you forget you said that…
Wretched indeed pero pegajosa, no? Have a listen to some agro-rock over at Cesar’s blog– it’s still going round my head in all its mangled campesino andaluz glory.

  5. Televisa people haven’t finished using women as objects.. don’t think they’ll ever will.. Muy naco comercial, de veras… se pasan.! me dan “pena ajena”.. Gwin, do you know what that expression means? =)

  6. Hola Cuquis,

Creo que sí: “A truly naff advert, seriously, they’ve gone too far. I’m embarassed for them.”

Not sure if naff works in American English though, but you can ask your husband if need be ; )

Thanks for stopping by and adding your insights. Did you join the demos yesterday in SD?

  7. Hi Gwyn, No, didn’t go to the protests, but my heart was with them though… I had a class to attend, it’s easier to miss classes when you’re in high school, but not when you’re in a PhD program… I am a bad Mexican =)

  8. Indeed, this is naco and rather lame.

Not that there’s anything wrong with naco, mind you, but it has to be done properly. I wish I could show you a clip from the “chiquitibum” commercial from the Mexico 1986 world cup.

Now that’s proper exploitative naco. Truly a classic.

  9. Maybe it will turn up on the interweb one day. In the meantime, the Mexico 86 stamp you’ve got on your blog is scary enough…It looks more like something from an 80s “Just say no” anti-drugs campaign…

Bueno, Cesar, muchos saludos- ya me voy a la chamba.
