Not quite as many people turned up as planned, but all the more for me’n’jose… And there’s more than enough for an arrachera and salsa themed breakfast in half an hour or so… Did a fair amount of recording last night, am trying to find the best way to embed audio in PF’s Blog. Anyroad, as per usual the night descended into plumbing the depths of YouTube where I chanced upon this totally chingón video of Senser in their prime. All together now, check a check it out, check it out, check it check it out, bring it bring it on, bring on, come on, come on!
I met the band on a ferry coming back from France when I was 19 or 20 (12 years ago) and shared a few beers with the lot of them. Kerstin Haigh, the female vocalist had just shaved her head… And I can vouch that they’re all lovely folks.
Can anyone beat 30 seconds on this game? Almost worth losing for the taunts in French “That’s exactly the same time Paris Hilton got..” *Gallic guffaw*
On Friday the carpenters finally came round with all the bits and pieces they´d measured to repair our waterlogged kitchen panelling. It was all going great guns and I was ready to find out where the mice were hiding when they removed the oven. Turns out they were living in the fibre glass insulation material INSIDE the oven and had horded Atticus´s biscuits and FSM knows what else and it smelled rank. So we had a sterilise-the-oven session and i took a couple of photos of the carnage. I´m not posting them though, because it makes me queasy just thinking about it. After all that we needed a stiff drink so we went to the Famosos Equipales where Jana serenaded us with unique versions of Johnny Cash songs and we put the world to rights.
Saturday was Flickr Tour #7 to Tequila. And although the turnout was less than usual (9 of us) the planets aligned and along with the planned stuff (centre, museum, Columpio, Cofradia) we also stumbled upon a traditional dance presentation and saw people chucking agave piñas into a truck. Afterwards Mario recommended a beer and botanas place (you drink and the food comes along with it, tapas style, but less delicate) where we snacked, played pool and stuff. All me photos here, all photos from everyone here.
By Sunday I was knackered, but got a fair bit done on the chamba front despite my laptop being back in overheat-and-turn-off-with-no-warning-after-15-to-20-minutes mode. Luckily I have Ana´s slow, but reliable desktop as a back up… Sterilised the rest of the kitchen then went to see The Killers do their stuff at the spanking new Auditorio Telmex. We were up in the nosebleed seats, but they put on a good show. Basically songs from the first album were fantastic, and songs from the second were Springsteen.

Here’s a pic of where I’m blogging from these days. Just decorated it with some prints from around these fair shores and a Big Lebowski poster (or “Identidad Peligrosa”) from Amour Fou your friendly neighbourhood video rental shop. 20 pesos no less.
Have you seen the photos from yesterday yet? There’s a nice one of the girls… They all hightailed it over to Puerto Vallarta this morning, if the bus left at 9ish, they’ll probably be there by now. Unfortunately they left the camera, but luckily we’ve got Sally’s photographic memory and fine line in well-observed anecdotes…
I’ve had a great weekend, all in all. Tlaquepaque’s changed a lot since I was last there. For the better… We even managed to pick up the premium tequila that Sita promised to the winner of her feedback questionnaire which saves me a trip to Tequila. The car’s getting sorted out at the mechanic’s today so hopefully we’ll be mobile again soon. Me and this other bloke had to jump start it and it wasn’t having any of it. We had to push it about 500 metres on the flat before we gave up and they went for the tow-truck. I’ve already racked up 10,000 steps on the pedometer and it’s barely lunchtime…
Hopefully tomorrow’s Lucha Libre time again. Sarah & Mark, give us a ring as I’m not sure I’ve got your numbers.

In ’98 I couldn’t stand the stuff. And I wasn’t sure about guacamole neither. How things change… (Coriander in the queen’s english, btw)
I’ve been mightily impressed by the efficiency of TelMex’s DSL service. Ordered it Monday morning, modem arrived Tuesday and plumbed in by Thursday. I’d’ve had it going two hours earlier too but I had to ring the help desk as it didn’t like my password (beautiful renditions of ‘Octopus’s Garden’ and ‘Oh, Darling’ on hold though).
The phases have been pretty much: travel 1700 miles, find a house, meet up with old friends, fill house with furniture, get DSL & cable, get studying/working. We’re entering the last stage there. But over the last week or so have really got to know the city well just from running errands. Last time we were here (2 years ago) and it was all public transport, and when I was here in 1998, even moreso. Driving is a lot easier than it was made out to be. The only real challenge is from the whole tope (speed bump) vs traffic lights thing. One obviously on the ground and ready to put your steering and suspension out if hit at over 10 mph and the other hanging stupidly high and keeping your vision off the ground. If you’re looking for street signs as well, that puts another hazard in yer way. Yet I managed to drive with a flat pack office desk, 4 plastic chairs and a table from Plaza del Sol to our house in rush hour yesterday, so all’s well. Maybe I’ll add ‘Guided Tours’ to my already eclectic business card.
Plenty of room for visitors, book your flights to Guadalajara now and we’ll pick you up at the airport… It’s still gorgeous weather too.
Skyped me folks yesterday, and was informed that Dad had made another foray into photoshopping. I’ve got this creation of his as my wallpaper for now.

perhaps you should just give up on possessions for a few years.
Don’t tempt me.
All I’d need is wifi, a laptop and online storage. And a towel, obviously, for hitchhiking.
