Portland Observatory TTV
I haven’t uploaded a Through The Viewfinder shot for a while, so here you go… This is from a while back, the first week of ‘spring’ on a phototour Portland, ME. Because of the way Maine’s coastline works incoming ships couldn’t be seen from the harbour so they built this here observatory (not a lighthouse) on the hill so they could see when boats were on their way into the port and sound the horn/ raise the flags to tell the dockers to get on it.
Sorry to my wonderful email subscribers for the repeat post yesterday. I’ve been playing with the theme again and made a few changes so you got resent the Skipping in the Rain in Oaxaca pic from a few weeks ago. On the plus side, comments are now hidden until you click the ‘Show Comments’ bit under each photo. What with the blog now importing from Flickr they were getting a bit unwieldy. Fixed that.
Also right now this blog is called From Mexico to Maine… in a couple of months it’ll be urban photography all the way cos we’ll be trapped in New York City without a car. Any suggestions for a better title? Comments are as welcome as ever… Ta
😐 pensé que era Faro!
I like the ‘distressed’ look!
cool cool
Awesome.
Parece faro, Colibrí, pero fue construido porque desde el muelle no se alcanzaba ver los barcos que llegaban, entonces construyeron ese observatorio para verlos llegando. Al ver el barco izaban las banderas para que los obreros superion acudir al muelle.
They get more distressed every time I put the pringlecamera in my (filthy) backpack… stay tuned, JGG!
Thanks Liz and Jason 🙂
aaayyyy muy chida…
gracias, maestro!
I had to google "pringle camera" to see what you meant. Stellar effect – I really like this one.
Thanks!
Were there any results or was this the first page? Search for "Through the viewfinder" and you’ll probably have better luck, Costigans.
http://www.russmorris.com/ttv/02.html is considered the most authoritative source. And he doesn’t mention pringles…
parece que esta enbrujado!
de verla me dio miedo! pero muy chida, man!
Nice shot, It’s nice to see the results of the pringles cam.
like the glowy window, center left
Well I did find a couple results on how to make a "camera obscura" with a Pringles can…
Thanks for the link – interesting stuff!
Bustin’ makes me feel good, Rufles 😉 Gracias
Cheers Mike, sorry it took so long to add you as a contact. Finally I get to see your awesome shots.
Thanks Beth, see the sun was shining.
I’m tempted to try that pringles camera obscura- I’ve already got a pinhole camera but the pringles can version looks more solid.
This is fantastic Gwyn!
Thanks Bob! Means a lot coming from an accomplished photographer like yourself.
Well thank you for the compliment Gwyn. I’d say you are definitely a very accomplished photographer as well.
