Still alive
So thanks to a translation I’m working on I’m up on the latest vocabulary for preventing electrostatic discharge (ESD) and also learnt that crocodile clips are Caimán clips round these parts… It’s the little differences…

Didn’t like the way our taxes looked when we tried e-filing last night, so we’re off to H&R block. Isn’t it grand being a grown-up?
If you’ve having trouble with the dropdown menu below, could you comment please? It should take you to the page, but i’m thinking maybe some early or ultranew versions of Internet Explorer won’t comply.
Have an educational yet depressing game of Top Trumps against the computer. I still haven’t beaten it…
Well, it rained for the first time in a month or so yesterday (the last time was on the way to Phoenix, Arizona from L.A.). Proper rain, mind, none of your namby pamby mizzle- lightning, thunder, the works. I’ve always wanted to take a photo of lightning so I went up on the roof and took several 16 second exposure, low aperture shots, it took about 5 attempts, but i got one. . It’s far from perfect, i was holding the camera as still as possible with no tripod, aiming at the sky. Next time I want a city scape with forks of lightning above it, like this second pic, which has had a few minor photoshop elements added, and features at least one deliberate spelling mistake…
Had a nice chat with Sally t’other night. The bunnies have become tunneling machines, and their run looks like a building site. Lulu’s the main culprit and he wouldn’t even stop digging when Sally stared at him. So Sally, bless her, went to All American to get chicken wire to go under the run and installed it all herself. Nice one, KilcarSally
Today the plan: Update my CV, pick up the laser printer from the repair shop, pass by an English school that’s looking for gringos as part of the part-time non-teaching staff, get agaveweb.com off the ground. Finalise me postcard size ads and get them to the printer, bulk email the lake Chapala non-profits… Work out why we’re getting so many phone calls that either hang up (I think our number is v. similar to the Cuarenta Principales (top 40 radio station…) or are banks/ loan sharks/ lawyers wanting to find the previous occupant… Anyroad, more news as, when or if it happens. Cheers, gwyn
I’m off to watch ‘democracy’ in action with DrSita in a mo…
Just saw this meme in Flash’s blog:
* Grab the nearest book.
* Open it to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don’t dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
One question almost every dog owner asks is, “How do I keep my dog from jumping up on people?”
From Dog Training for Dummies. (page 56 was blank, this was 57)
Shall post more today…
Last night Sita, Jose and I went to an Argentinean restaurant, La Matera I think it’s called named after the gourd thing you drink mate out of. Mate wasn’t on the menu however, probably because it’s illegal in most countries. Jose chose the place after a recommendation from his sister about the food there and a colleague at work who recommended the meseras. Anyroad after 30 minutes wait or so, we ordered lomo, medium rare and bugger me if it wasn’t the most delicious piece of meat I’ve ever sunk my teeth into. Melts-in-your-mouth good, on a par with the filet mignon we had in Buenos Aires, and the filete in ‘La I Latina’, Guadalajara. Not only was it delicious, but plentiful too and there’s still some left in the doggy bag in the fridge. This place is only 5 or 6 blocks from the house, whenever I land another job I know where we’re going to celebrate.
Their chips weren’t bad neither…
So plans for day… AgaveWeb, possibly Tonala/Tlaquepaque (It’s market day), and a quiet evening, for tomorrow it’s round some mates’ house for Thanksgiving. Talking of which, happy TG to my american readers. William Burroughs wasn’t a fan, mind. Never was the cheeriest of folks though…
…rain already.
PHP class is coming along nicely. I can do sums now…
It’s hard to work up the energy to do much else though, just switching programs on this computer takes a minute or two. I hope my lappy comes home soon and I can get coding and translating again. I’m having a go at making a photo blog which’ll let me post my favourite pics once a day and maybe shoving some google adsense on it to mitigate the hosting costs… but once again having 3 blogs on the same server is playing merry hell with the permalinks and it’s not behaving itself yet. Anyway, it’ll eventually be here: agaveweb.com/photos

Ay, los caimanos!
Pero ‘Feliz caimanos’ no equivale a ‘Feliz cumpleanos’.
With the thunderstorms you get in Gwod I reckon ESD protection needs to be heavtweight…
Happy birthday Bethan, if you happen to be reading.
