Greenville Dog Sled Race – 30 miles

Greenville Dog Sled Race – 30 miles

On Saturday I travelled up state to Greenville to watch the dog race. Freezing it was, but it was a great photo op and everyone-crowds, mushers and dogs- looked like they were having as much fun as I was.

I’m planning a post on my neglected blog soon.

Here’s a link to the full set

Topsham Fair

It’s taken a while to overcome the inertia of not posting here but I reckon it’s time to start up again. This’ll require a new category for Maine, and probably some new tags for seafood and snow. Maybe I’ll even get round to my old blog again soon.

Here’s one from a couple of weeks ago at Topsham Fair (pronounced Topsum) apparently. I used a tripod and everything.

The Polar Express

This shot was a happy accident. I was walking along the railway track and saw a light in the distance coming out of the blizzard, gradually it became obvious it was the train I saw stationed there t’other day and it was belching out steam and making a fair old racket. As it went past, Santa (the American Father Christmas) leaned out and all in all it was a pretty special moment.

I am extremely happy about all the snow that arrived today…

Hyperspace in Tryon Creek

A polarising filter, slightly longer exposure and, most importantly, zooming while pressing the shutter created this here effect.

Time for Bed

…said Zebedee. Playing around with 2 second exposures at dusk in a playground in Oakland.

Posey Tunnel

Alameda’s underground connection to the outside world.

Toros again

Sorry to keep returning to the toros, but it’s just such a savagely intriguing theme. Photos of salads to follow.

Ouch

This guy survived with a broken nose, but the toreador before him broke several ribs.
Changes are afoot at this blog, just need to get on the CSS… Try voting for this picture if you can find the 5 stars below the ads in your browser.

Toros

Self explanatory really… from Guadalajara’s Nuevo Progreso Plaza de Toros yesterday.

Aguas!

Water from the taps in Mexico is of variable quality. Even if it gets to your house uncontaminated it’s sat around in tinacos (tanks) on the roof of your house for days and the plumbing isn’t always the most hygenic. So there are competing water companies who call round every day selling gallon bottles of water (garafones) for around 20 pesos. We’re sticking with Juan from Bonafont because Atticus gets on very well with him… The bloke here was doing around 30 mph in a built up area and looking backwards which is quite a skill in itself.

Papá

We’re off for a week or so to the States, LA and NY. And as you may have gathered my blogs are playing up a bit so apologies for the sporadic posting. Here’s a photo from Sunday’s Flickr tour of some paternal fun since we’ll be passing by our family’s home in L.A. Keep checking back or subscribe away to the RSS or email updates! Cheers!

Torero Toreando

This was a one-off visit to the bullring. I felt I was on very dubious moral ground throughout… Undeniably impressive whatever your viewpoint. Taken in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico…
