The thing is that right now I’ve got some projects on the go but I’m waiting for people to get back to me before I can continue, so I end up surfing the net reorganizing my desk. I can’t really look for more clients because next week I’ll be up to me neck in projects again. Anyroad, that’s my explanation for the proliferation of links in the last 24 hours. Also today’s Friday so there’s B3ta‘s newsletter and the newly free The Friday Thing.
Anyway this one’s via BoingBoing: Woman struck by lightning while praying… favourite line: “She said ‘Amen’ and the room was engulfed in a huge ball of fire. “
Our friends Gina and Evan had us round for dinner the other night and showed me their dual lens camera. Since they don’t make film for these things any more the idea is you take a picture with another camera Through the Viewfinder (Ttv) of what it sees. You end up with slightly distorted, vignetted, dusty, square images that are really pleasing to the eye. I was inspired and bought the first camera I saw on eBay. It’s been a while since I used eBay and my original bid of 5 dollars was soon outbid and I got caught up in the competitive bidding and finally snapped it up (pun intended) at the last second for 20 bucks and it arrived today. You can probably get them cheaper, but what the hell…
The next step after cleaning the lens and mirror a bit was making it light proof, there’s a tutorial on how to make a perfectly fitting tube, but I couldn’t be arsed with all that… I ripped up the box it came it and went into a sellotaping frenzy… 10 minutes later… behold!
Next step is wandering around seeing things from a waist-high angle for a while and getting used to the mirror image while Drsita and Atticus look on bemusedly.
Here’s the set on Flickr from today and here’s me favourite below:
To make a long story short, I’m very happy with me new toy.
Other news… we’re looking forward to Sally and Martin’s visit in a few days. Had a lovely weekend and met the neighbours properly. And still no major news on the work front.
In brief: the water’s not coming into the house again. I’m trying the same tactics I used last time, hitting the mains tap with a big stick and hoping it’ll be fine later if I leave it. It’s probably just some massive system failure down the road…
Off to La Matera for steak again tonight, and I was feeling all wholesome for just having a smoothie today.
Couple more potential clients coming my way at work. Fingers crossed again, looks like business may be taking off. Touch e-wood.

It’s every bit as ugly today, if you ask me. I’d definitely choose the text menu whether my browser supported images or not…
I’ve got a fair few projects on at the minute, so the blog’s on the back burner for a bit as it were… In the meantime, consider this a chance to explore the site, there’s the gallery, our rabbits, our dog, and the immediate family. Oh and book and film reviews. Some of those pages were even updated within the last year. Off you go now, Ah, go on, go on, go on…
My scrabble rating’s at 995 after a quick succession of blinding games. Maybe this weekend will be the watershed millenial game, or i may just plunge back to the 800s. It depends how late I’m out tonight with the usual crowd. Last night Sarah, her sister Betsy, Sita and me went to a few cantinas. La Fuente, (de rigeur on any cantina trip), La Maestranza, (for all your bull fighting memorabilia and 90s indie pop needs) and Los Molachos (named after the original owner who was indeed molacho , or missing lots of teeth). Still managed to make it to another productive day at work. They finally read over what I’ve been doing and are suitably impressed. Go me! (he wrote in a fit of self-congratulation). Business cards tomorrow and next week there’s going to be a sales person on the case, as they’re hiring a pushy young lady to go out and rain make or whatever they call it in marketing parlance. That would be good… Other plans: Tonight, more cantinas. Tomorrow, Tlaquepaque craft & photography, possible fiesta in the evening, Sunday, Laid back philosophical discussion, gauloises and strong coffees or maybe The Pink Panther remake. Whatever it is, you’ll read it here first. And last.

Lessons learned, sure. That’s how we move forward in life. But this ‘attempt’ was much more. Glorious scenery. Measuring self against Nature, but for the fun and not for any glory. It’s impressive you put up with so much ‘punishment’ of your body and got so far. MANY did less! Think of it as a 5-hour marathon, then an extra 20 mile circuit of honour! I daren’t even ask what something like this did to your bodyweight! Muy bien hecho!
Very kind, thoughtful words, Dad. Aye, it was glorious scenery and I’m glad I gave it a go. I feel very privileged to be able to try these things at all, fortunate for good health, free time, being fully vaccinated and having enough disposable income to sign up for events where volunteers will keep me fed and watered through a run, however gruelling. It was great to find yet another sprawling area of Utah I’d never properly been to before and I’m putting all these places on the list for your next visit. Bits of it reminded me of where you and I wandered in Escalante with the petrified trees, it was very different to the Narrows area you explored… Means a lot that you were following along on the app. Any improvements to bodyweight were temporary, having a fine week of proper lovely meals. Skype soon!
mighty impressive and groovy recap show too.
i made it to the off licence the other day.
Grab us some tinnies next time you’re over, skippy. Do they still make XXXX?
