Atardecer Lluvioso en Tlaquepaque
The good doctora and I are celebrating our 10th Anniversary… the Opening Ceremony of which took place last night in Tlaquepaque and was nigh on perfect. As we ordered our tequila and dinner the heavens opened; the cloudburst stopped just as the sun was setting and with the view down towards the city being pretty much due west, it made for a gorgeous sight. Back home v. soon. It’s been magical as always.
City Creek Canyon Trees
Dear jeebus, SLC and its surroundings doesn’t half look pretty in the snow. Just going to the local supermarket to pick up dog food is a joy if you time the sun/weather right… Here’s some trees in a rare second post in the same week. Amazing what can be achieved with an extra hour.
ps. Thanks for the comments at Flickr. I’ll be answering them properly v. soon. Honest
Wasatch Mountains
Haven’t had a portrait-orientation pic for a while… I still can’t quite get over the countryside round these parts. I expected desert, and more desert, and maybe the occasional cactus, but it’s lush- tons of springs, waterfalls, greenery. Very happy with this turn of events. And then after we got back home it started raining, proper thunder-and-lightning, Guadalajara-style rain. This is what Sundays should be like. Did I mention the complete absence of traffic too? Starting to understand why lots of people have told us not to tell the world about SLC…
Waterville Sunset
Back to Maine for this one. Someone added it as a favourite on Flickr and it reminded me I hadn’t uploaded it here before and it’s one I’m well fond of. The sunset looks like a watercolour wash. Taken on the way back from the dog sled event way back when.
Seal Beach, Califas
It just dawned on my I haven’t made the New York category link yet… so I’ll hold off on new biggapple pix until I get round to that particular item.
This one’s from a wander down to the beach a couple of weeks ago on Sally’s birthday and our anniversary. Lovely light, lovely location. DrSita paddled and I got my trainers wet by accident.
Hallelujah
The sunsets the last few days have been stunning. Huge storm clouds, red-tinged light, and all at the perfectly acceptable hour of about 9pm. It’s been raining a fair amount too, but the good, Mexican, kind of rain that soaks you to the skin in 30 seconds but is as warm as a heated swimming pool. An hour or two later and other than the occasional missing road, everything’s back to normal. Love it.
Anyway, this ain’t a sunset, but a quick snap of the sky while walking Bolo the Beagle in the tapatían afternoon.
Matatlán, Oaxaca Sunset
Incoming storm clouds provided perfect lightbox conditions for this one. And to the left there was a mezcal factory so this was a full-on sensory overload.
Rainbow over Achill Island, Eire
Original title: They’re after me Lucky Charms
Then I decided that was a bit flippant and doesn’t translate culturally outside of the US anyway.
Hoping to start posting properly again here. At least 2 a week. I’d forgotten I had an ‘Elsewhere‘ category so that’ll make it easier to put a few up from our lovely holiday back in the UK and Ireland.
Shiny Sea Dog
Brunswick and Topsham are also connected by this bridge over the Androscoggin River. This is from last week when a day of showers gave way to low mist illuminated by a setting sun, one of those moments when I was glad to have my camera on me.
Blue, Yellow, Black
From Saturday’s Maine Photography Meetup in Wolf’s Neck State Park, 20 minutes south of here. Just the 5 of us, but it was a grand day for a walk. More soon I hope.
Brunswick-Topsham Swinging Bridge
This pedestrian bridge was built in 1892 to connect the towns of Brunswick and Topsham. In 1999 a study reported it had 5-10 years of life left in it so a small fortune was raised and in 2004 it was rebuilt and now has another 50 years of dangling to look forward to. As to this photoblog ‘What’s new?’ you ask?.. Well… (more…)
Luz Silenciosa
This one was on the way to the Topsham fairground where the other long exposure shot was taken. I like the light and how the stars are visible.
Feathers
Matey here was following us when we went lobster fishing. The bait from the lobster pots gets chucked into the sea and is replaced with fresh herrings. The seagulls were well used to this process and having them hover close by made them prime targets for me camera.
Mt Rainier from Seattle
I’m off to Seattle today. Here’s a pic from the last time I went a few months ago. Doubt it’ll be this clear today, but hope springs eternal…
Catkins
Lovely word that, catkin. While doing some (brief) research on wikipedia I found out they’re called amentos in español. I was wondering whether catkin was a UK English thing or not, I’ve not heard it crop up in conversation in the States, but then again, I s’pose it wouldn’t really…
This was taken within 10 minutes of the teasels one from yesterday.
Dog’s water bowl lens
Plan A was to take a high ISO shot with a very fast shutter speed of this breaking when I chucked it at the concrete, but I decided I wasn’t well coordinated enough to pull it off. Plan B was to hold it aloft like a mighty jewel and shoot the sun’s rays glinting off its imperfections. Behold, plan B.
